Native to Malaysia; now grown along the coasts ofKarnataka, Kerala, Tamil Nadu, West Bengal, Assam and Maharashtra.

Action:
Astringent, stimulant.

Veterinary Uses:
Taeniacide

Toxicity:
Contraindicated in asthma due to bronchoconstrictive effects of the alkaloid arecoline (human case reports). (Francis Brinker.)
